What does WRAS approved mean?
WRAS stands for the ‘Water Regulations Approval Scheme’ and is a certification body for the testing and approval of plumbing fittings such as taps, showers or the component materials used within them.
Testing is done on an impartial basis and non-discriminatory hence WRAS approval can be applied for products from any country or manufacturer and all testing is done to the same level.
The certification tests and confirms that products coming into contact with the water supply meet standards that keep the water supply safe and uncontaminated whilst also not causing waste, misuse or excess consumption of the water supply.
WRAS approval is particularly expected in public works where installers should be mindful to fit products in accordance with local Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.
As well as complying with these regulations, products that are WRAS approved indicate a higher level of quality and, therefore, providing a higher level of trust and peace of mind for many contractors and specifiers.
Products that have WRAS certification may, however, be more expensive than non-approved products due to the production standards and materials used. Subsequently, retailers find that they can often command a premium for this.
It’s a little bit like knowing you have a good insurance policy in place!
